Sustainability Practices
CleanScapes' founding mission was to "enhance the
commercial and residential viability of urban areas
while providing employment opportunities for
marginally employable men and women in the social services
network." Our
founding mission was at the heart of sustainability – maintain
urban areas as clean, safe places to live and work and perhaps
curtail development in rural areas.
Waste Reduction and Diversion. CleanScapes maintains full time
staff to help customers implement waste reduction and diversion
programs. Waste reduction postpones the need for new landfills, incinerators and other capital intensive waste management systems while at the same time reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Local people — Local jobs. A sustainable community requires
nearby, easily accessible jobs with a range of skill requirements.
CleanScapes and our sister company, CDL Recycle, offer a wide
range of career opportunities with a proven ability to move men
and women from unemployment to highly productive members
of our team.
Purchasing Guidelines. Stop waste before it happens! CleanScapes' sustainable office policy emphasizes waste prevention, durable products, and reuse. We use 100% post consumer recycled copy paper, compost our food waste, and reuse packaging.
Future Fuels Today. CleanScapes is committed to using the most sustainable fuels for our services. We collect thousands of gallons of used fryer oil from our restaurant customers and re-manufacture it into biodiesel. Our fleet replacement policy calls for replacing 10 percent of our fleet every year to ensure that our trucks are running the latest emissions technology. In 2009, our new Clean Natural Gas station in Georgetown will power a new CNG fleet in Seattle.
Green Power. CleanScapes is pleased to support Seattle City Light's Green Power program at our Seattle Headquarters, shop, and yard.
Water Conservation. CleanScapes fills service truck water tanks with rainwater captured at our facility. This water is also used for truck and container washing.
